Ugborough Village Fair

Ugborough Village fair takes place annually, usually on the second Saturday in July.

The 2005 Ugborough Village Fair raised over £4000. This sum will be distributed to three charities: Ugborough Village Hall, Ugborough Parish Church Restoration Fund and Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled. The picture shows an exciting moment from this years fair when a cannon is fired from the top of Donkey Lane to open the Fair.

Ugborough Village Fair Committee

The Committee meet monthly except for the couple of months before Fair Day (the 2nd Saturday in July) when the meetings are more frequent as much organising of stalls, advertising, entertainers and general preparation is necessary. The Annual General Meeting is held within two months of Fair Day. The date will be advertised and is open to all members of Ugborough Parish.

The current members of the Fair Committee are:

  • Michael Bolton (Chair)
  • Robin Brindle
  • Owen Davies,
  • Linda Gibson
  • Rupert Gillard MBE
  • Joy Hoskins
  • Nicola Hunt
  • Philomena Jones
  • Taff Jones
  • Colin Martin
  • Mike Morrish (Treasurer)
  • Sue Prowse
  • Howard Webster (Secretary).

Michael Bolton writes:

I would like to emphasise that without the tremendous help given so willingly by so many people of the Parish the Fair would not be as successful as it is year after year.  In addition to all the help given on Fair Day itself, erecting Gazebos and dismantling them afterwards, manning some stalls and generally organising the day, various events are held throughout the year. During Fair Week itself events include Six a Side Football, Quiz Night, Bingo and Skittles.  The monies raised from all these are added to the profits gained on Fair Day which in 2005 raised a total of slightly over £4,000.  This sum will be distributed to three charities: Ugborough Village Hall, Ugborough Parish Church Restoration Fund and Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled.  A small sum is retained for donations which are made to village matters in need of assistance (eg. The Parish Newsletter).
